Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church is excited to host guest conductor Craig Jessop for our 2018 Masterworks Concert. The first half of the program–selected by Jessop especially for the Sanctuary Choir–centers on Ralph Vaughan William’s Dona Nobis Pacem, with soloists Ken Carroll and Julie Liston Johnson. The work is bookended with two pieces by Mack Wilberg which were composed specifically to accompany Dona Nobis Pacem. The second half of the program features the exciting concerto for organ and orchestra by Joseph Jongen: Symphonie Concertante. It will be performed by concert organist Bradley Hunter Welch.
Dr. Craig Jessop is Professor of Music and the founding Dean for the Caine College of the Arts at Utah State University. These appointments follow Dr. Jessop’s distinguished tenure as music director of the world famous Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Head of the Department of Music at Utah State. Under his direction, the Tabernacle Choir received numerous awards, including the coveted National Medal of Arts in a ceremony at the White House. He has recorded over 15 albums and in 2008 received a Grammy nomination for his work with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.
Dr. Bradley Welch is Artist-in-Residence at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church and an active recitalist and clinician. He was featured numerous times during the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s 2017-18 season, including as a soloist for Barber’s Toccata Festiva. Before assuming the post at Preston Hollow, Dr. Welch was Director of Music & Arts at Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas from 2009 to 2014. Between his concert and recording engagements, Welch served as Artist-in-Residence at Christ Church in Plano, one of the largest Anglican churches in the United States. His premier recording is the first solo organ recording of the Cliburn Organ at Broadway Baptist Church. Most recently, Bradley and colleague Ken Cowan released Dynamic Duo, a recording featuring thrillingly virtuosic music for two organists.
