During the school year, PHPC Youth Sunday School classes use the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Celebrate curriculum, which is augmented by topical lessons created by our teachers. Celebrate looks at how the Bible and our Christianity relate to current topics, trends and ideas. The summer program is usually a special study series, such as comparative religions, religious themes in films, and the Parables of Jesus. In August, Youth attend intergenerational worship services.
Sunday School begins at 9:30 a.m. We have three different classes in the fall, and four in the spring. The classes are 7th grade, 8th grade, Senior High, and Confirmation (9th grade). Confirmation class meets January through May, and is open to all non-confirmed youth 9th grade or older. All classes meet in the Youth House. The Youth House is a separate building from the main facility and is located directly east of the sanctuary.
Confirmation is an intensive study of the Reformed faith, the Presbyterian Church in general, and Preston Hollow Presbyterian specifically. Students also are expected to attend a retreat, have regular worship attendance, write a statement of faith, and be examined by elders of the church. The completion of the Confirmation class enables members of the class to join the church, if they so choose. The goal of the confirmation process is to have youth decide for themselves to take the vows that their parents and the congregation took on their behalf at baptism. Those who have not been baptized are traditionally baptized on Confirmation Sunday in May.
