We invite you to come on an adventure that is both gut wrenching and heart warming. Our partnership with the Synod of Livingstonia (the Synod) of the Church of Central Africa Presbyterian (CCAP) began in 2001 and has grown through mission trips and relationship-building dialog and prayer.

Malawians are a people of deep faith but few resources or access to the barest necessities. Education beyond the 6th grade is, for most, out of reach. How can we make a difference in the lives of these, who seem to have a deep and abiding joy at odds with their circumstances? What can we take away from our partnership with them that will instruct us to be more faithful? Come and see . . . we, and they, are making an impact . . .

   Mission Trips

Since 2000, five separate trips have sent a total of 27 friends from PHPC to Malawi under the care and guidance of PHPC, the CCAP and our PCUSA Mission Co-workers in Malawi. We are deeply grateful for the Malawian people, specifically, the leadership of the CCAP, for their encouragement of our partnerships with them. We look forward to a long, deep and loving relationship with each as we strive to bring about God’s promised kingdom in our own hearts and those we meet along our common path. Won’t you join us?

  Giving Opportunities

The 5th annual Malawi Christmas Tree has again provided opportunities for giving beyond our walls. Our congregation once again gave so generously even in these difficult economic times. Our project emphasis to build capacity, not dependence, has resulted in total additional funding for Malawians and Christ’s church at work there totaling almost $52,000 for things such as 21 new village wells for clean drinking water, over $8,500 for the Crisis Nursery and Ministry of Hope, over $5,500 for vital medical equipment for health care, more than $25,000 for continued scholarships for doctors, nurses, teachers and seminarians, village sanitation projects, orphan care and so, so much more. With these donations PHPC has reached two wonderful milestones in our walk with the Malawian people. We have funded our 100th shallow well and over $100,000 in scholarship assistance. Our funds are being used by God to bring about His kingdom in the world. Alleluia! Won’t you join us next year at the Malawi Christmas Tree or anytime throughout the year?

1998-2008 Giving History

  PHPC's Scholarship Recipients

Through the generosity and caring of PHPC’ers like you, we support the educations of many Malawians as a way to foster leadership for capacity building. Through our many mission trips we have developed relationships with people who can identify qualified candidates who have a commitment to give back to the church and the Malawian people. As of 2009, PHPC donations have funded over $100,000 in student scholarships for teachers, doctors, nurses, and seminarians. The empowerment of women, as defined by the UN Millennium Development Goals, embraced by all Malawians, is one step closer to being reached by our funding of the first female seminarian at the University of Livingstonia this year.
