Nicaragua

Cary Wicker, part of the PHPC Nicaragua Mission Team, is in Guatemala and Nicaragua furthering a partnership between Helps International (in Guatemala), CEPAD (in Nicaragua) and PHPC.

Led by PHPC young adults Stuart Williams and Cary Wicker, PHPC took its third mission trip to Nicaragua in June 2009. The group of eight was greeted by over 300 friendly faces in Matasano, where the mission group and the community members worked to build a church together. Among other things, the mission team members lived with local families, played soccer with the children, ate various meals with members of the community, and worshipped daily. While the focus of the work was expanding a church, the most important building that happened was between PHPC and the families in Managua and Matasano.

PHPC member and mission trip participant Amanda Walker has this to say of her experience:

“I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to live and learn with such amazing people. The Matasano community welcomed us with arms wide open, and I was amazed by their overt kindness and hospitality. The beautiful countryside took my breath away. The week was full of laughter, friendship, worship, and lots of rice and beans.”

Since 2007, PHPC has had an ongoing commitment to mission in Nicaragua. Our work and learning has happened through CEPAD, a Christian organization committed to community development and sustainability. For more information on CEPAD, see www.cepad.org.ni. PHPC has applied to become a mission partner with CEPAD, and looks forward to furthering its relationship with the Nicaraguan people.
