Worship and Sunday School:
Come One Come All for the Flowering of the Cross on Easter Sunday! Children are invited to take part in our Easter celebration to symbolize the new life in our risen Lord to all the worshippers present on Easter Sunday morning. Children will help the congregation rejoice in the resurrection of Christ by celebrating the 6th century tradition of Flowering the Cross.
All children are invited to bring flowers from a home garden, or make a flower, or use ones that will be available at the church to adorn the cross in Jubilee Plaza and to celebrate our Risen Lord! No preparation is required, stop in Jubilee Plaza before the service begins to add your flower to the display. There will be no Sunday School on Easter so that all family members can attend worship together. It’s a wonderful offering in honor of the risen Lord, and can also provide an opportunity for families to talk about the meaning of the cross and the resurrection.
The tradition of Flowering the Cross is an especially striking and beautiful way to symbolize the new life that emerges from the death of Good Friday. It visually represents the new life that we celebrate as witnesses to the instrument of death and endings transformed into life and new beginnings by Christ’s rising.
Faithful cross, above all other,
one and only noble tree!
None in foliage, none in blossom,
none in fruit thy peer may be.
Venantius Honorius Fortunatus, 6th century
Come celebrate this wonderful tradition with the entire family on Easter. Again, please note we will have no Sunday School classes on Easter so all can participate in worship together.
