Dr. C. Edward Spann, retired Dean of the College of Fine Arts at Dallas Baptist University, will be our speaker at First Friday Live*Learn*Laugh Luncheon at 11:45 AM on April 9, 2010 in Jubilee Hall. He will do a multi-media presentation on his book Presidential Praise: Our Presidents and their Hymns. The result of over threeyears research, the favorite hymns of each president will be presented in a unique way. Dr. Spann has made well over a hundred presentations of his book since publication in 2008 and the following comment is representative of the reception to the program: “Ed is a great storyteller with a wealth of knowledge to share. His 'presentation' is entertaining, educational, enlightening and inspirational as he talks about the lives of and tell anecdotes on the Presidents. This is a one-of-a-kind experience!” The book Presidential Praise will be available at this event.
Dr. Spann came to Dallas Baptist University in 1989 from Houston Baptist University. Prior to this he founded the Department of Sacred Music at the Baptist Seminary in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Worth as well as the PhD from Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida. On February 5, at 11:45 AM, our own Stan Woodward will present a very timely subject "Technology - dealing with exponential change." The advances in technology of all kinds affect us every day. But what is harder to see is the effect of exponential, versus linear, change in the technology itself and what that means for all of us. Technology advances and trends in Social Networking, Education, Medicine, Security, Telephony, Elder care, and other areas will be examined as well as their impact on society at large.
