Twogether in Texas

 PHPC Marriage Preparation Class
Certified by Texas Health and Human Services Commission
PHPC was awarded certification from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission as an official site for couples to receive Marriage Preparation. The certification acknowledges that the eight-hour class offered by our pastors and members meets and exceeds the requirements set by the State of Texas as a part of the State initiative to promote strong marriages in Texas.   The requirements include providing couples pre-marital education with emphasis on marriage expectations, communication and conflict management, financial planning, and intimacy. Once participants complete PHPC’s one-day seminar, they are presented with  a certificate that enables them to save $60 when they apply for their marriage license.

PHPC offers Marriage Preparation five times each year, and is required for all couples who plan to be married at PHPC. Pastors lead the participants in discovering ways to better communicate through active listening and speaking the truth in love.   Elder David McBee provides the couples with ways to prepare budgets, make sound financial decisions for the present and future, and ways for “spenders” to communicate with “savers.” During lunch, couples learn from “Voices of Experience.”   These voices come from three couples who are PHPC members. During each seminar, three PHPC couples attend to share their words of wisdom with the couples These include a couple who has just celebrated their one year anniversary, an “empty nester” couple and a couple who has already celebrated their 50 year anniversary.   Wisdom gained from these couples is immeasurable and is always a highlight of the seminar!

If you have friends who are planning to marry, whether at PHPC or another location, encourage them to register for one of the seminars by emailing our Wedding Administrator, Dawn Hall at dhall@phpc.org. More information about the class may be found on our website, www.phpc.org. PHPC members who would like to serve as “Voices of Experience”, please express your desire to Fran Shelton and /or Dawn Hall. We promise that your hour of volunteer time will be greatly enjoyed by our class participants.
