We are pleased to welcome Rev. Caroline Braskamp as Parish Associate for Families at PHPC. She will begin her work in the New Year, collaborating with PHPC staff, working five to ten hours a week enhancing ministry opportunities for families with a focus on marriage enrichment and parenting. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Caroline is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A) having served Vienna Presbyterian Church in Vienna, Virginia, before moving to Dallas in 2006.
Over the last few years, Caroline has been serving in a volunteer capacity with the Covenant Community Sunday School class. In addition to many gifts, she is an excellent teacher, a wonderful listener, and brings a warm and caring heart to the church.
What about this role as Parish Associate for Families is exciting to you?
I believe that our biggest calling (and our biggest impact) lies in our closest relationships—how we love ourselves and our families. Martin Luther called the family a “little church.” I am excited to help us grow as children of God, spouses, and parents. Most of us have little preparation or training for this important work of our lives—and I am excited to be a part of these opportunities for growth. I’d like to help people truly “live their best life” (yes, Oprah)–by God’s grace.
What about your ministry in the church captures your imagination and passions?
I have always been drawn to improvement projects—of the interior kind. I am guided by these words of the Apostle Paul: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds” (Romans 12.2a). I want to explore how to truly grow in grace—not from self-directed improvement efforts, but from a Spirit-led transformation to becoming who I truly am. And I want to invite others on that journey with me.
I also love connecting people to each other and to God. And I love the church because it’s where God and people are woven together, through Jesus. I am grateful for PHPC because it is a place of true nourishment—where Jesus feeds me each week so I can grow into who I really am. And I want to welcome others to the life God offers us through the church.
What will you be doing in your new role at PHPC and what are you most looking forward to in that capacity?
I will be supporting families at Preston Hollow—no matter what your family looks like! I will be focusing on offering opportunities for marriage enrichment, parenting, and spiritual growth. I am looking forward to teaching marriage enrichment classes in January & February, building a community for PHPC moms, and meeting more of PHPC’s parents and families! Feel free to reach out to me so I can get to know your family.
What interests do you enjoy doing beyond your professional work?
I enjoy yoga, reading, and eating ice cream. (Specifically, CorePower at Preston/Forest, the Harry Potter series, and Botolino gelato.) I love being a mom to Sophia (13) and William (10)—and am married to a great husband, Steve.
