*Call to Worship

God of steadfast love, we confess that we do not live according to your way. We often fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others, of living according to our individual lives, forgetting that together we are the body of Christ and are called to live out this identity. We try to do everything on our own and do not lean on one another for help and support. Instead, we compare and compete. We allow systemic injustice to continue because we believe the lie that we can “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps.” Forgive us, O God, and help us to remember that we are called to be in this work together, not alone.

*Words of Forgiveness

One:       Hear and believe the good news of the Gospel:

All:         We are saved by grace through faith. In Jesus Christ we areforgiven.

              Thanksbe to God. Amen.

Sermon

*Affirmation of Faith

In forming his people and sending them into the world Jesus called individuals to be disciples. They were to share the joy of his companionship, to understand and obey his teachings, and to follow him in life and death. We confess that Christians today are called to discipleship. Life shared with Christ and shaped by Christ is God's undeserved gift to each of us. It is also God's demand upon every one of us, never perfectly fulfilled by any of us. Forgiven by God and supported by siblings in Christ, we strive to become more faithful and effective in our daily practice of the Christian life.

Prayer of the People and the Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
