The AMERICANA concert of Preston Hollow Presbyterian is a beloved annual event featuring American music of many varieties — patriotic, sacred, movie, and Broadway. Our guest this year is former PHPC Choral Scholar, Vuyiswa Sigadi who is currently obtaining her Masters degree in vocal performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She will be the featured soprano soloist in John Rutter’s cycle of American spirituals, FEEL THE SPIRIT, which includes “Sometime’s I Feel Like a Motherless Child” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” No tickets required; offering will be received.
For all human history, we human beings have spoken to each other in parallel monologues, a way of talking that makes talking the most dangerous thing most of us do and listening the most infrequent. The result has been chronic conflict and polarization, for a thousand years. Our challenge is to replace monologue with dialogue by talking without criticism, listening without judgment, and connecting beyond difference which transforms conversation from danger to emotional safety. This workshop is open to anyone who wants to learn and practice safe conversations with everyone: an intimate partner, a friend, a child, a colleague, or those with different political, social, and ethical backgrounds.
