"Fitness in your Senior Years," an interactive health presentation, to be led by Dr. Tony Babb, professor of internal medicine at UT Southwestern and director of the Cardiopulmonary Laboratory at the Institute for Exercise and Environmental Medicine (IEEM) at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas. The presentation includes information from the Centers for Disease Control, the American Heart Association and National Institutes of Health, among others, with tips, best practices and guidelines on keeping the body moving throughout the senior years. The discussion will cover setting personal health goals for weight loss, how to safely increase physical activity, perks of better cardiorespiratory fitness, and how to decrease risk of disease by improving overall exercise habits. Dr. Babb will discuss types of exercise (aerobic, resistive training, flexibility, balance, etc.), as well as modes of exercise (cycling, walking, etc.), plus share suggestions for frequency, intensity and duration of activity. This is a free event, dessert will be provided.
