A Note from Presbyterian Disaster Assistance:

December 28, 2021

This week I received an email from Bill McConnell, a staff member of the Presbyterian Mission Agency, that seems best to be shared with everyone at PHPC:

I am writing on behalf of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to thank you and the folks of Preston Hollow for your incredibly generous gifts of support for PDA’s work with victims of this year’s devastating hurricanes, earthquakes, and fire. In addition, PDA is working with local Presbyterian leaders in Texas and in Las Vegas to address needs that have arisen from recent acts of public violence. As we speak, Disaster Response Teams are actively involved with multiple Presbyterian congregations, presbyteries, synods, partner agencies, and individuals.

PDA leadership are in Puerto Rico now to meet with Presbyterian leaders of the island to assess the needs and begin the process of recovery. In all of these areas, emergency financial grants have ben been made to the presbyteries to address immediate needs. PDA is anticipating long-term presence in these areas. Your Presbyterian Disaster Assistance dollars will be at work in these areas long after television cameras, and even FEMA, have gone home.

To give you a short synopsis of work already being done, PDA Director and PDA Associate for National Disaster Response the Rev. Dr. Laurie Kraus and the Rev. Jim Kirk, have put together the attached video.

Your PHPC pastoral staff continues to be in communication with PDA and is coordinating efforts for mission trip opportunities in the near future. We have extended an invitation to the Rev. Dr. Laurie Kraus and Rev. Jim Kirk to visit Grace Presbytery when their schedule allows. Thank you, PHPC, for your outpouring of love to our neighbors in Texas and beyond!

Grace and peace,

Kathy
