A Prayer For Our Seniors

December 28, 2021

Good and Gracious God,

Today we have so much to be grateful for.

First and foremost, we are grateful for the students that stand before us: For Cara and Ethan, Chinedu and Sarah, Mason and Cooper, Stephanie and Katie, Jackson and Erin, Sidney, Anna, Tommy and Ellen Margaret. For years they have blessed us with their energy, their talent, their wisdom and their compassion. They have inspired us with new ideas and witnessed for us what radical love can truly look like. So we are grateful. We are grateful for your fingerprints in their lives, and the way they have changed us.

And today we are grateful for this church, and for the many people who have generously supported the foundation so that moments like this might occur- moments of hope and new life, moments of radical generosity and grace.

So with those words of gratitude on our hearts, we pray once more for these graduates. During this season of new beginnings, we ask that you would make their way clear. We ask that you would keep their footsteps firm and remind them that You are with them, always, for they are never alone.

So when they are unsure, may they remember that they are wonderfully made.

When they make a mistake, may they remember that there is grace.

And when they meet new people, may they remember that All belong to you.

And when they are lonely, if ever they are lonely, remind them that they will always have a home here, in this community of faith. For through Christ’s love you have transformed strangers into family, and friends into siblings, and we are not quick to forget that.

So God of the here and now, once more we pray- be a lamp for their feet, and a light to their path. Shine over them. Fill them with your spirit. Wrap your arms around them. Bless them with your favor and peace, for these students are our family, and we love them. Thank you for the gift of their life and the gift of this church.

In gratitude we pray,

Amen.
