Literacy Achieves!
Literacy Achieves (founded as Vickery Meadow Learning Center) was established in 1997 by the members of the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church to address the critical need for adult English literacy programs in Vickery Meadow, a low-income neighborhood with thousands of immigrant and refugee families.
Since its founding, Literacy Achieves has experienced steady growth – increasing our impact through award-winning programs while expanding our services to include a children’s program and sites in additional Dallas neighborhoods.
Today, Literacy Achieves helps families fulfill their hopes and dreams for a better life by providing free English literacy and early childhood education programs to 1,100 adults and 330 young children annually at three Dallas neighborhood locations - Vickery Meadow, East Dallas and West Dallas – all with the help of more than 300 dedicated volunteer teachers. As demand for English literacy programs continues to soar, Literacy Achieves will strive to address this critical community need.
